Oscar Party Cocktails

February 26, 2011

These cocktails were inspired by Natalie Portman’s performance in “The Black Swan” as a relentlessly driven ballet dancer whose obsession with perfection warps her mind.

White Swan vs. Black Swan, one movie, two drinks, one memorable Oscar party. If it’s simplicity you seek, kick off your red carpet event with two enticing libations. For this year’s Oscar party, plan on catering to both personalities. The White Swan, with its fresh orange juice and sparkling champagne embraces grace and innocence, while the Black Swan captures the darker and more sensual personality with its intoxicating combination of Chambord, a black raspberry liqueur and vodka.

The envelope please. And the Oscar goes to? You be the judge. Which swan cocktail matches your personality?

White Swan

Ingredients

4-5 blackberries or white raspberries when in season (skewer for a swizzle stick)

1/4 ounce of Chambord

1 ounce fresh squeezed orange juice

Top with champagne

Directions

Combine Chambord and orange juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a glass. Top with a splash of champagne and garnish with a blackberry swizzle stick.

Black Swan

Ingredients

6-8 blackberries (drop 3-4 into the glass and use the remaining for a swizzle stick)

1 ounce vodka

1/2 ounce of Chambord

Top with champagne

Directions

Combine vodka and Chambord in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a glass and add 3-4 blackberries. Top with a splash of champagne and garnish with a blackberry swizzle stick.
